Ozzy -for Ozzy Osborne (1948-2025) The first thing Ozzy bought with a rock contract was a pair of shoes Then he went for a pint. Manchester was Black Country David Bowie sang about it on The Man Who Sold The World Black Country would have sold Ozzy as it had generations of young men but he and Geezer Tony and Bill struck first Like some thread spinners who demanded worker management and were the first target of the Generals Who in the name of God Mother Church and Commerce fired and jailed all the poets who reinvented themselves In the 1980s As free trading metal front men whose revolution was making wholesome teenagers sing about Satan Satan. He flew a Red and a Black Flag and without him no Henry Rollins Jello Biafra or can you believe it James Hetfield and Dave Mustain. It all started in Birmingham. It started with a pair of shoes a pint some makeup and a rabid bat. -Jeremy Nathan Marks
I never liked his music, but I am digging the epitaphs.
Interestingly, I never heard his origin story, I've always thought of it all starting with Toni Immoi and his finger tips getting snipped off. But it is interesting how for a band, all the right elements have to come together at the right time for it to birth something special like they did.
